Analysing Magazine Pages

I decided to analyse front covers, contents pages and double page spreads looking mainly  two prominant examples: Vibe and Rap Up

In order to help me plan the pages for my magazine.

Target Audience

My target audience is going to be young people from the age of about 16 -25 who are interested in R&B music.

This age range are the type of people to download and purchase alot of music

They are very open minded and will buy magazines to find out new artists, gossip and even style tips to follow trends.

R&B Magazine Which cover works best?

For my magazine genre I got given the R&B genre, In general women on R&B magazines front covers are often protrayed as either really sexy or wholesome and role models for younger girls. The representation of women in the media is often protrayed as derogatory because of video girls.

A) A female who suggest sex appeal, and sas.

The Ciara edition of 'Rap Up' shows the target audience a musican who is sexy and confident hence the way she is dressed. The coverlines in relationship to her curves is a prominant feature of the front cover.,

One  generic conventions of Rap-Up music magazines, is that it’s masthead has the same font and colour on each issue (large, easy to read font, bold and black) and it’s always situated in the middle.

The central figure/s help to maintain a stereotype, as well as customer loyalty. They are always current and popular groups that fitthe music genre of Rap-Up (R&B/Hip-Hop)

B) Females who connote friendship, empowerment and fun in music

Preliminary Task Blogging

WHAT DID YOU DO?
I looked at other examples of school magazines and sixth form bulletins to get a rough idea of what my magazines front cover will look like.

My target was students (16 -19 years old) who are going to the college so therefore the magazine would feature fellow pupils and have headlines which relate to them.
With my target audience in mind I was able to visualise what the magazine should feature and what is most appealing. I used bright and appealing colours and pictures of students on the front cover.

Introduction

Introduction
As part of my A level media coursework, the brief requires me to:

  •  Create a front cover, contents page and a double page feature spread of an R&B music magazine.
  • I'm also required to use a desktop publisher such as Adobe InDesign
  • Use of image manipulation program, for example Adobe Photoshop.
I have created this blog in order to record my research and planning which will help me to produce a successful magazine.
